Conscientiousness: the leaders who have high in conscientiousness are effective and organized. They are highly disciplined, and act according to the rules and regulations, they are highly goal oriented, and follow a proper procedure of doing the work rather than doing it spontaneously. Whereas the one who are low in conscientiousness are have characteristics of easy going or lay back attitude or they are careless towards their work, they act like spontaneously. Extraversion: the leaders which are high in extroversion are highly energetic. They perceive qualities of talkativeness and outgoing. They are usually attention seekers and dominating one. Whereas in case of leaders who are low in extraversion, perceives reserved nature and act immediately rather than following an exact sequence of protocols. Agreeableness: the leaders who posses high agreeableness are friendly, compassionate as compare to those who are low in agreeableness. The leaders having high in agreeableness have fear and anxiety sometimes they are in a situation of illusion. Whereas the leaders having low in agreeableness are not easily convinced, they are often competitive and challenging which can also be perceived as untrustworthy (Zaidi, Wajid, Zaidi, Zaidi, Zaidi, 2012). Neuroticism: the leaders who are high in neuroticism they are sensitive or nervous to their work, whereas the leader who are low in neuroticism they are secure and confident towards their team and work. Whereas according to McClelland there are basically three needs which motivate an individual are as follows: Need for achievement: it is often quoted as n-ach. Here the leader wishes that his power to be ruled over the team. Collaborating: that means a problem solving nature. In this situation a leader wants to work collaboratively with his/her team. In this case of situation all the decisions are taken by having mutual agreement. This is the situation which can be matched with assertive and cooperative, which is just opposite to avoiding. Compromising: in this situation sharing is given priority. Here a quick solution can be drawn by having mutual coordination of all the team members and with leader. This situation is related to assertiveness and cooperativeness. The basic motive of a leader in such situation is to arrive at a solution which satisfies both the conflicting parties. That is the middle path of two opposite ways. It does not mean that the leader will do an in depth analysis of a situation as in case of collaborating nor he avoids the situation like in avoiding. It can be understood as a finding out the difference and reaching out the middle way. Avoiding: here withdrawal is given as priority. In this situation a leader does not want to discuss about the goal and topic. That means whatever the team member wishes; it will not affect the leader at all. It is the situation where the leader is somehow uncooperative or unassertive. Here the leader does not response to the conflict. Avoiding can be done by a leader by postponing the case until and unless a better time comes according to the leader or simply he take back his steps from a situation (Thomas Kilman) Accommodating: in this case smoothing is done that is in a situation like accommodating the leader agrees to the points given by his/her team members. It is the situation where a leader is cooperative or unassertive, that is just opposite to competitive. In this type of situation a leader usually neglects his/her opinion just to accomplish other concerns, that is the leader self sacrifices his/her desires for others wishes. The nature of a leader in such type of situation is generous, charitable, kind. Importance of this theory As after going through the analysis it can be said that each situation has its own strength and weakness, as it all depends upon the team members and their respective situation. Action plan The action plans of a leader differ according to the situation of conflict. Using SMART analysis style should be differed according to the situation like in case of competing situation quick decisions are necessary on the issues which needs to be resolved quickly. While in case of collaborating situation the nature of leader must be of problem solving nature where the motive is to learn and test his/her assumptions with the team. In case of compromising situation sharing should be promoted that is when two components are in conflict and both have the same power and authority then in such situation through sharing temporary justice can be done. While in case of avoiding the leader does not give any importance to his/her subordinates. Whereas in case of accommodating smoothing is promoted that is others opinion plays a more important role over the leader (Rees) Conclusion Hence after analysis a conclusion can be drawn that all the theories are relevant and needs to be studied for an effective management and betterment of the team as well as the organization as a whole. An exact action plan can be drawn as it depends on the personal traits of the leader as well as the situation in which he is leading. The mainstream of this society has quickly adopted computer technology as part of their daily life, and in doing so openened up to all the possibilities this technology has to offer. The ever growing group of elderly people (age 60 and older) in our society, which will grow from being 20 per cent of the population in developed countries to being 32 per cent y 2050 [1], seems to have been forgotten in this matter. With this growth and the fact that we all grow older in mind, the opportunities that computer technology could give this group should be considered. The ongoing advance of technology suggests that younger peoples experience with computers will not be a curcial advantage when they grow older. It is not hard to imagine that, looking at a random website or imput devices such as the mouse and keyboard, elderly people might have trouble in using them. Heller et al. 2] say about aging: As people grow older, their abilities change. This change inludes a decline in cognitive, physical and sensory functions, each of which will decline at different rates relative to one another for each individual. This makes it hard to define the elderly as one consistent group, and presents a challenge for designers of computer technology. Facing this challenge, however, can ultimately provide benefits for both elderly people and the society. I have chosen to write this essay about computer technology and elderly people ecause, as a student in Information Science, I have the opinion that it does not get enough attention from Information Science students. It is a subject that offers great potential in helping people in a all sorts of ways with and trough the use of computers, therefore standing out against the business-focused majority of research subjects in Information Science. This paper will describe the effects of computer technology on elderly people, and give an outline of possibilities in this area. Violent Media with Parental Involement is Better Than Without It - Essay Example main contention is that violent media helps children master their rage, develop confidence and enables them to handle their personal and family problems effectively. Jones believes that the present day society is too afraid of rage and violence and aims to suppress it in the same manner as the Victorian society once suppressed sexuality. The claim of Jones that violent media can be used as a tool for children to understand and control their rage, depending on their circumstances, is founded on sound reasoning. Research evidence suggests that children who are products of broken and dysfunctional families, especially boys, tend to develop anti-social and aggressive attitudes and behaviors in the later stages of their lives (Kimm and Kim). Violent media in such situations can be used as a form of therapy, as long as children receive parental or adult supervision as well as guidance from psychologists or counselors. Jones’ statement that â€Å"At its most fundamental level, what we call ‘creative violence’ †¦ gives children a tool to master their rage,† is credible to some extent. If a child watches violence under the supervision of a responsible adult, the latter may be able to explain the reason for the violence, which will offer the child an insight into when violence is justified and when not. Coleridge: Early Visions :: Richard Holmes Biography Essays

Coleridge: Early Visions Richard Holmes' intent in his biography on Coleridge is apparent from the opening pages. In fact, even his title implies his purpose of showing Coleridge as a visionary hero. In his preface Holmes clearly spells out his plan for achieving this purpose. He explains that much of the previous work done on Coleridge has focused on the more negative aspects of his life--his "opium addiction, his plagiarisms, his fecklessness in marriage, his political 'apostasy', his sexual fantasies, [and] his radiations of mystic humbug" (xv). Holmes sets out to write a different type of biography; his attempt examines Coleridge's "entire life in a broad and sympathetic manner" and reconciles his faults with the "extraordinary man" and the "extraordinary mind" (xv). In the process he hopes to show that Coleridge's visionary genius alone makes him "worth rediscovering" (xv). In this first volume of a planned two part biography, Holmes traces Coleridge's life up to the year 1804. Throughout his work he co nsistently emphasizes the spirit, energy, and unrelenting power of imagination that made Coleridge unique. He examines the highs and lows of his life and leaves his reader with both a vivid image of Coleridge, the man, and a number of questions and possibilities to ponder. Holmes' structure and style are essential to his success at bringing Coleridge alive for his reader. His biography follows a traditional narrative structure, and his language is direct and unpretentious. This style brings a novelistic quality to the biography; it reads quickly and enjoyably. Holmes encourages his reader to forget all that he has heard about Coleridge in the past and discover him again as a fresh character in Holmes' story. Holmes moves quickly through the early part of Coleridge's life, stopping along the way to focus on specific instances which exemplify Coleridge's early intellectual and imaginative powers or which later influence aspects of his life or literary work. Holmes discusses Coleridge's enormous appetite for reading and the early age at which it began; he focuses on a specific night Coleridge nearly froze to death along the River Otter; and he examines the emotional and practical consequences of the death of Coleridge's father. Holmes repeatedly returns t o these moments throughout the biography as they become relevant. In chapter four, with his discussion of Coleridge's friendship with Robert Southey and their plans for their utopian Pantisocratcy, Holmes makes a transition from Coleridge's youth to his adult literary life.

Problem of Teenage Pregnancy

Over the past few years teenage pregnancy rates have grown substantially. More than one million teenagers will become pregnant this year in Canada, and the number is growing. Many socioeconomic factors influence pregnancy rates, such as; different races, different religions, financial status, education and family background. Another influence is the sexual education children are receiving or not receiving at school and at home. While the problem of teenage pregnancy is acknowledged, solutions are coming slowly. Some parents feel that pregnancy is a result of the lack of sex education courses taught in schools, while others feel that these courses end up encouraging teenagers to become sexually active. Studies have been done to find out just how important sex education courses are, and what effect they have on pregnancy rates. â€Å"The amount of sex education they receive is not as important a factor, according to a new study. † (Fewer girls get pregnant when involved in community, E8) Toronto Sun, 1998) Other sources say: Sex education courses, advocated to prevent teen pregnancy but denounced as encouraged sexual interest, appear to have little or no effect on teens† sexual activity. Such courses also have no noticeable effect on contraceptive use and pregnancy rates among teenagers. It was found that while students do learn about sex and contraception, they do not appear to alter their behavior. † (Okie, 1996) The courses that are offered in schools have proven not to have any influence on the teenage pregnancy rates. The reason for this may be that the courses are just not being taught effectively or are targeting the wrong age group: ‘Two major goals of the school sex education programs are to reduce the incidence of unwarranted pregnancy as well as the rates of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. However, to be effective, programs must begin early. If we wait until an age when most adolescents are sexually active, we might have to combat an acquired behavioral pattern of ineffective STD/pregnancy prevention behavior. Some statistics found that in the 1984 survey of school superintendents found that children do not all seem to know what we expect them to know. It was found that 50% of schools offered a family life education program. Whereas 87% of urban districts had a program, only 25% of rural districts had a program. Canadian school children ages 9, 12 and 15 showed a considerable lack of sexual education. Only 35% of grade 7 students knew that is was possible for a girl to get pregnant between the ages of 12 and 15. Most thought pregnancy could not occur until after age 16. (Herold, 1997) Through many studies it has been proven that sex education in schools has little or no noticeable effect on the teen pregnancy rate. The conclusion has been made that the rate of teenage pregnancy is rising, but there is no solution in sight. Many thought having sex education in the schools would reduce the rate but statistics have suggested that they will not. There have been suggestions of other ways of reducing the high rates. â€Å"Sexual counseling and access to prevention† (Beard, 1992) could be tried. In the mid-1970†³s the â€Å"Ontario government started to provide universal access to publicly funded family planning and sex education. † (Beard, 1992) If these were used in combination with school sexuality education it has been predicted that a decrease in the pregnancy rate would occur. â€Å"Changes in the social climate†, (MacDonald, 1996), which teenagers have been exposed to have been linked with rising adolescent pregnancy rates. These forces must be understood if we are to avoid to obvious pitfalls, draw successfully on our traditional social and cultural strengths, and design effective models of prevention.

Aprà ¨s Que Indicative / Avant Que Subjunctive A common mistake is Aprà ¨s que plus a subjunctive. Its a very common mistake, even among French people, because honestly, the indicative sounds terrible there. Avant que is followed by the subjunctive  because we dont yet know if the action is going to become a reality. With Aprà ¨s que, the action has taken place already: there is no doubt left, hence no need for the subjunctive. Aprà ¨s que subjunctive sounds so bad to a French ear that we will do our best to use a noun instead of a verb after. You can use the same trick with avant que et avoid using a subjunctive. Je dois commencer aprà ¨s quil part. (or aprà ¨s son dà ©part)I must start after he leaves (or after his departure). Je dois commencer avant quil parte (or avant son dà ©part).I must start before he leaves (or before his departure) By the way, even if we use le derrià ¨re in French (although this is extremely polite, just like saying the behind in English), French people use the preposition derrià ¨re without thinking about it at all. Just like in English you use behind without thinking about that part of the anatomy.
